What’s the Difference — and Why It Matters

Not all “zero torque” putters are created equal. The term ‘zero torque’ is gaining popularity, but few golfers understand the nuances between these types of putters. For example, a putter that claims zero torque and one that actually delivers zero torque at address. And that distinction makes a big difference.

What Is Zero Torque?

In simple terms, zero torque means the putter head is designed to resist twisting at address and throughout the stroke. This is typically achieved through advanced weighting, precise center of gravity placement, or creative shaft placement.

Many brands have developed ways to reduce torque when the club is in motion — allowing the putter to swing more freely without twisting. However, this design doesn’t guarantee that the putter sets up square to your target. In fact, many “zero torque” putters will still allow the face to address the ball slightly open or closed at address if left to their own balance. That means unless you perfectly square the face before each putt, you're introducing inconsistency right from the start.

What Is Zero Torque at Address?

Zero torque at address takes the concept further. This is where Axis1 putters begin to stand apart. Our patented design ensures that when the putter is at rest — in your hands or held loosely — the face naturally wants to point square to the target. You don’t need to “square the face” manually. The putter does it for you.

Why It Matters.

Every golfer knows that the most crucial variable in putting is face angle at impact. Even a 1° misalignment can cause a miss from just a few feet out. If your putter isn't naturally square at address, you’re forced to fight against it with grip pressure or subtle adjustments — and that introduces inconsistency. Even worse, if you use a zero-torque putter that is not square at address it will feel as if the putter isn’t twisting but your face may still be open or closed at impact.

A putter with true zero torque at address promotes a natural, confident stroke, square at address and square through impact.

Bottom Line:
Zero torque in motion is helpful.
Zero torque at address AND in motion is game-changing.

With Axis1, you get both — because starting square is the only way to finish strong.
